I would like to thank the staff and everyone that donated
the pizzas to Afghanistan for the Super Bowl. I did not have
a slice, but i am one of the key players that helped push
the pizzas to the Soldiers in the austere locations. I am
still working on some pics, but rest assure, they really
enjoyed them. Once again, thank you.

I get so sick of the chow hall food because it's always the
same. I come from NJ so I crave good pizza. The ones they
have in the chow hall just don't cut it. One night when I
was going to chow I noticed a whole bunch of pizzas. I
decided to try one. It was so good. I talked about it the
whole next day hoping they would have more. I lucked out to
get another piece for lunch. I want to thank everyone who
donated. I never even knew there was such a thing as

To the Evans family,
For all that you do…the personal sacrifices that you have
made as a family, the endless hours and hard work that you
have selflessly given for your love of others, thank you!
Who would have ever guessed that Kent’s idea on a father and
son pizza night in your living room would have led all of us
to this place a short year later…from 2000 pizzas for 4 July
2008, then 2000 more pizzas for the Super Bowl to the 28,000
original Uno’s deep-dish pizzas. Those pizzas allowed nearly
80,000 US service men and women at six+ bases in Iraq and
three bases in Afghanistan an opportunity to enjoy a taste
of home unique to America. It might seem a small
thing…pizzas. Yet consider the donations sent in by children
running lemonade stands, the families of those lost in
conflict and the many loved ones yearning for a holiday with
their personal heroes. This taste of home provided an
opportunity for people at home to make a tangible investment
in the lives of those few who sacrifice for the good of
many. To the troops serving OCONUS…We care, we miss you and
we all appreciate the difficulties and hardships that you
endure to allow us the freedoms that we enjoy as Americans!
Your friend,
Ethan

Mr. Evans Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It made me
recall a story my dad told me while serving this great
country during WW11 he was drafted 2- months prior to dec
7th , and sent to the pacific , he was in the gilbert isl.
invasion after they had taken the island they found chickens
roaming around that the japanise "used to own". they penned
them up and where feeding them rice from the bombed out rice
storage (after cooking it ) when things had calmed down a
bit they cooked 24 chickens and had enough for a half
chicken and 2- beers each.it was a great break ,because at
night they where still having air raids.. this is very
condensed but the general idea ,of how much it can mean to
our great men & women! Thanks again Luke Brittan

My brother is serving over in Iraq right now. We were just
talking to him the other day and he was just saying how he
is craving pizza. Thank you for your support of my brother
and all of our troops!! We will support and order from Papa
John's from now on. Thank you! The pizza is great but more
importantly, your support of my brother and our troops,
means a lot to my family and especially to the brave people
we have in our military. God bless you and your company!
Sincerely,
Marie

I saw Msgt. Mark Evans on Fox News this morning and can't
think of a better way to donate money. He talked about 2,000
pizzas shipped for the Superbowl...because of these great
men and women protecting our country I will be fortunate to
watch the Big Game with my friends. The least I can do is
send them some pizza for a special occasion!
Also, thank you to every volunteer involved - from cleaning
the dishes to transporting the pizzas. This is a great idea!
God Bless America!

Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU for what you are doing.
My husband is not in the service but working in Iraq. He is
at an airforce base and he tells me all the time of the
courage of our sons and daughters and how they sacrifice
their lives, freedom and how proud they are to serve. I
appreciate all that anyone does to make life a little more
like home and wish that more Americans were willing to help.
Again thank you and GOD BLESS OUR TROOOPS AND YOU AND YOUR
EFFORTS.

so, my family would be interested in donation in memory of

Mark: There are very few people in this world that have
taken on such a tremendous quest, for your fellow man. Your
dedication and compassion is one to be envied. I WILL make
this pledge to you...I will do all in my power to help you
succeed in this goal that you and your family have
undertaken. I know the feeling when a loved is gone for
months at a time. My son Christopher is serving somewhere in
Iraq, again. This is his 7th time to be recalled. I already
lost one son...may God bring Chris back home soon.

I heard about you on Fox news. My Mom, whose birthday would
have been July 4, passed away recently. Instead of putting
her usual gift,a red/white blue bouquet on her grave, I've
sent you a donation. My 22 yr old son is a Marine, Iraq war
veteran. She would have loved this idea. Thank you for this
great gift to our troops!

What determination and inspiration your family has. Your act
of kindness and determination has brought a deep
appreciation, not only to untold numbers of our military,
but their families as well.
Having family members that have served in this war, we have
been blessed that they were able to return. Even though so
many of our men and women are still there, it is reassuring
to remember that THEY have not been forgotten. Not only have
you given them this small token of “food for the soul”, but
the knowledge and deep appreciation of HOME and what their
patriotism and commitment to their branch of service has
been for our country.
Reading their email comments to you says it all. My sincere
gratitude.

who are going to try and audit all your monies raised and
where it went. Make sure you aren't taking advantage of your
position.

Subject: thank you for the lou malnati's pizza
I just want to say you made my year and deployment to Iraq
... I'm a born and raised 100% Chicagoan and I miss the food
and especially Lou's pizza and I've been away from home
since turkey day of 2007 ... and I'm writing you on the 4th
of July 2008 from Baghdad, Iraq ... and I just got back from
lunch at the chow hall and I went through the typical boring
line of food and got some crap, till I got to the end and
there it was ... a whole table of Lou Malnati's deep dish
pizza ... I couldn't believe it that anybody would even care
to do something like that ... I pushed my crap food aside
and grabbed a whole pie and I shed tears of joy ... you made
this Chicago boy's day and I don't think it can be topped,
until I go home. ... I don't know if anybody thanked you and
a lot of people didn't know how special the pizza was they
just thought it was regular chow hall pizza and passed it up
and I told them how special it was and how far it had come
... and I turned a whole bunch a people on too it ... I got
attached to a unit from Arkansas and they had never tasted
real good pizza before ... it really meant something to me
and I thank you so very much

Subject: From Baghdad---Independence Day Surprise from
Chicago
In a message dated 7/4/2008 5:44:15 A.M. Central Daylight
Time, writes:
Happy Independence Day Family and Friends,
I thought you would get a kick out of the greatest surprise
I enjoyed today. It's 109F in Baghdad at this noon hour and
I was just heading to the our dining facility to grab a
sandwich for after a mid-day PT workout (thankfully in an
air conditioned gym). My plans were twarted in a really
enjoyable way. As I walked through the door there were signs
for "Fresh Chicago Pizza from Lou Malnati's Restaurant in
Chicago." The dining facility always does a terrific job
feeding us, especially on holidays. Today, however, they
served us delicious and perfectly prepared deep dish pizza
from this Chicago restaurant. I hadn't ever had Lou
Malnati's pizza, but I can tell you that it was excellent.
The story behind the huge donation of 3,000 hand-made pizzas
and the generous people who organized the shipping and
preparation is described in the linked Stars and Stripes
article (
http://www.stripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=55962
). I tried getting on to the website run by the creative and
determined father and son who had the idea, but I was unable
to reach it (www.pizzas4patriots.com). If you and your
friends in the Chicago area have the interest and
opportunity to pass along my appreciation (and that of
thousands of my teammates) to Lou Malnati's and this father
and son team I'd be grateful. They chose to donate their
pizzas they would have served at Taste of Chicago to this
cause. Our gain was, unfortunately, Chicago's loss. What a
great morale boost for my team. I thank God for this gift
and the creative and patriotic Chicagoans who made it
happen.
I hope your Independence Day is a wonderful one and that you
will join me today in thanking God for the precious gift of
liberty he's given us as Americans.
Love,
Dave
I don't mind if you forward my note of gratitude to others
as a salute to Lou Malnati's and Mark and Kent Evans of
pizzas4patriots.com.
